Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The first Crusade began in 1095, the last crusade in the holy land was the ninth crusade which ended in 1272; there were other wars called crusades afterwards but they had little to do with the early crusades!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Like the previous poster said, the Crusades began with Pope Urban II's call to take back the Holy Land from the Muslims in 1095!. Many historians place the end of Crusading, however, at the fall of Acre (the last holdout of a Crusader state) in 1291!. However, the idea of crusades as a valid ideal continued well into the Rennaisance!. The Reconquista was seen as a valid crusade, as was the Spanish and Portuguese expansion!.
