Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
- The two different alliances were as follows!. Germany, Austro-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire on one side vs!. Britain and France on the other with their original allies of Russian and later the USA!.

- The war was predominately fought in Europe with the majority of the fighting taking place in France and the Netherlands!. There were naval conflicts in the North sea as well as conflict in Africa where Paul Emill von Lettow-Vorbeck proved to be the best!. There was also fighting in the Atlantic, Russian and Turkey and the Mediterranean!.

- Blackadder Goes Foth presents the argument that "it was simply too much trouble not to have a war" and I agree with that theory!. Most of the Continental countries of Europe, especially those in central and Eastern Europe, were almost spoiling for a fight and the Kaiser specifically wanted to expand to in the end the interest of each nation coupled with the many treaties signed just conflicted with everyone else and War soon followed when the status quo prove to be unsustainable!.

- The assassination of Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire by Serbian separatists was the catalyst!.

- Bi-planes (famously the Red Baron Manfred Von Richthofen and his flying Circus) machine guns, mortars, the first Tanks, Dreadnaught Class battleships, U-Boats, poisoned gas!.

- around11,000,000 military personal lost their lives overall (including casualties from both sides) with around a further 10,000,000 military personal being unaccounted for at the end of the conflict!. That coupled with the estimated civilian deaths take the toll to around 40,000,000 perople who lst their lives as a result of that conflict!.

- Armored Vechiles (Tanks) improved Bi-planes, Tri-planes, Flamethrowers!.

- The British, French and Americans "won" with Germany surrendering and being all but destroyed in the aftermath!. Austro-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire collapsed as a result of this war (though the collapse of the Ottoman Empire was a long time in coming)!.

- the outcome of the war paved the way for WWII to begin and helped being the Cold War!. Because such harsh punishment had been doled out on Germany the people became more susceptible to the Nazi-party and had a desire for vengence and thus planted the seeds of WWI while the removal of the Romanov's as Tsar's in Russian led to the rise of Communism and the future Soviet Union and thus had the origins of the Cold War in its outcome!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
