This is from a letter to Meriwether Lewis from Thomas Jefferson describing the purpose of the mission!.
" The object of the mission is to explore the Missouri River & such principal stream of it as by it's course and communication with the waters of the Pacific Ocean, whether the Columbia, Oregon, Colorado or any other river may offer the most direct & practical water communication across this continent for the purpose of commerce!."
Click on the tabs on the left of source for more info, there is a technology tab!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try your school or local library for books on the journey and its missions!. The internet is not the " know all, see all and divulge all " site you feel it is!. Sometimes you have to seek answers!. The better you are at seeking, the better you will confront life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best place to go for good information is a book on Lewis and Clark, actually excerpts from their journal, edited by benard DeVoto, but you seem to want to go on line!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
