Neither city was directly on the coast, although Athens was closer to the sea than Sparta!. Sparta is about as inland as a city can get in Greece, but it wasn't far from its port!. Athens was a great sea power, whereas Sparta had the best infantry forces!. Both, however, were near the sea and surrounded by mountains; nearly all of Greece is coastal and mountainous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
