Question: Who was the bigger female icon of the 40's and 50's!?
Between Marylin Monroe and Audrey Hepburn!. I'm doing a series of birthday cards; four do be exact!. Each card has to have a person in it, and their designated decade!. The 40's and the 50's are a toss up!. But I have Edie Sedgwick and Twiggy for the 60's and 70's!. And I'm wondering where to put Marylin and Audrey!.!.!. It's hard because they were both famous at the same time!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you could put either one on either time period and it would be appropriate!. I think I'd put Audrey Hepburn first thoughWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you want to sell these cards I would think it would not matter who was bigger at the time as you cannot go back in time and sell these cards!. You will be selling these cards in 2009 or 2010 so what matters is who has stood the test of time and who is bigger in today's market!. It would seem to me that Marylin has more status now although this may not have been true at the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ingrid Bergman was huge in the 40's--a movie star that starred in "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart!. Although Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D!. Roosevelt was very influential in many social programs!.

Marilyn (check your spelling) Monroe would be bigger than Audrey because of the "sexiness" factor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Marylin Monroe was a pretty amazing box office draw in contrast to the two!. Marylin's popularity off the big screen made her popularity exceed her counterpart in this question!. It is a sad comparison for a talent contest but it is what it is!. Marylin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the 40's in Britain Dame Vera Lynn was known as "The Forces Sweetheart" because of her regular radio broadcasts to soldiers during World War II!.

The 1950's were the era of Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell and Diana Dors!. (Sophia Loren was more 1960's)!.

Marylin Monroe, because I'm a teenager and I've actually heard things (bad things) about Marylin Monroe but I haven't the faintest clue who that other chick is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that a better choice for the 40s is Betty Grable or Lauren Bacall and then you can use Marilyn Monroe to represent the 50s!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would go for Audrey Hepburn since she was classy and talented, not trashy and talented!. They both were beautiful women with lots of talent, but only one portrayed herself as a true lady!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
