I recommend reading Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond!.

He argues that environment basically made Europeans dominant over Asians, Native Americans, Africans etc!.

For the African Case, European access to Asian technologies like the compass and gunpowder basically made them more militarily powerful than Asians!.

Africans would use old muskets against the Maxim Gun resulting in mass slaughter for the Africans in a usual colonial battle in Africa in the 1800s!. European military technology made whatever the Africans had, obsolete!.

Except on a few cases like Isandlwana in 1879 when the Zulus defeated the British or in 1898 when the Ethiopians defeated the Italians

also, the geography of Africa is quite harsh!. The Greatest Empires in Africa were formed where it was relatively free of tropical rainforest and diseases like the Sahel zone in West Africa and the Horn of Africa region!. Everywhere else had to deal with Malaria, yellow fever and other little problems!.

Africans couldnt domesticate a lot of wild animals and crops due to a lack of abundance of them!. You cant domesticate an African Elephant, a Hippopotamus or a Zebra!. Africans only domesticated the cow, goat and other smaller animals!. Horses couldnt survive long in tropical Africa either, which resticted them to the Sahel Zone!.

The Shape of Africa itself made it hard for other African peoples to share knowledge and information about each other which is the opposite of Europe and Asia

The black people t that time lacked the institutions which their masters did!. They were not united, same as they are today!. Look at Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, most of Africa is at war!. This was the main factor that the more organized slave traders and slave masters exploited!. The slave traders even used other africans to capture and sell to them would-be slaves!.
Then you have large scale agriculture, which were labor intensive!. The blacks did not have plantations but only small plots of farms, where they do not need a lot of laborers!.If there was no high demand for them to have laborers, then why should they risk going to the white man's continent and bring people to work in their small farms!?
Another factor: seafaring!. The white men were more advanced on this!. Thats why the managed to reach distant shores!. This would have not been possible to most blacks even if they wanted to procure would-be white slaves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because it was black people who conquered their fellow black people and sold those captured black people to white people (if you consider Arabs to be white)!.

In the history of mankind, any advanced civilization will make slaves of a lesser civilization, such as the Babylonians did to the Assyrians, then the Assyrians did to the Hebrews, and as the Greeks did to the Assyrians, and the Romans did to the Greeks, and the Iroquis Indian made slaves out of the Seminole Indians and the Aztecs and Incas made slaves out of other smaller indian tribes, etc!. etc!. etc!.

Well, Africa was mostly tribal at the time that it was colonised by Europeans!. Africans did not have the organisation necessary to conquer Europe!. Nor did they have the weapons!.

And the slave trade was carried on between black people and white people!. African traders sold the slaves to European traders, and did very well out of the business!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the geography and climate had a large role!. The difficulties of living in much of Africa meant that many of the people were nomadic or lived in small scattered communities, based mainly on agriculture!. In Europe however, the population density was higher and cities developed!. The higher population density also meant greater competitiveness for resources, and therefore technological developments in Europe would have been encouraged!. Wars also promoted the progress of technology!.

Another possible factor is religion!. In Central and Southern Africa (the north being Muslim), the local religions were based on oral tradition; in the Islamic world and Christendom, the religions were based on written tradition!. Literacy and education were thus prerequisites for any religious position, and therefore education probably had a higher place in society!. This is also true of the literary and historical tradition of the later middle ages (although this is probably directly linked to Christianisation), as opposed to the sagas and myths of the Vikings or African tradition!.

The concept of the Nation State also emerged in Europe (as well as in Asia and North Africa) which allowed for more unified political bodies, while in Africa the population was organised around tribal groups!. Colonisation was a big result of this!. European wars became more and more ineffective over time, and after the new world was divided up, attention turned towards Asia and Africa, particularly in the mid- to late-19th Century ('the scramble for Africa')!.

It's important to note that the slave trade wasn't started by Europeans!. The Ancient civilisations practised slavery, as did the Arab world, which was possibly the largest player for much of history!. The Atlantic slave trade is however the most notorious because of its scale and brutality!.

EDIT: First, these are just my ideas; I'm not a history expert!. And when people talk of North Africans or Moors, they aren't black!. And it is true that West African civilisations practised slavery before Europeans arrived, and many of them benefitted from the slave trade (just not those taken as slaves)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simply put, western africans at first enslaved other africans!. when the causasians came, these slaves were sold to them!. Later ,the white people just enslaved any west african they wanted thanks to their eurocentrism and the high labor demand needed in the West Indies and Caribbean!. Racism wasn't a cause, but this came later to psychologically justify to themselves what they were doing!. The africans minded their own business on their own continent!. also, their weapons were no match for firearms and battle techiniques perfected by the europeans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They did! The Moors from North Africa conquered Spain and Portugal and most certainly did use them as slaves during the 7th century!. Eventually this led up to the crusades and the expulsion of the Moors back to Africa!. By the way the Moors were from Mauritania which to this day slavery has not been completely abolished!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Europeans actually had a very difficult time conquering China and Japan because both of those countries had developed guns, cannons and gunpowder separately from the Europeans!. People in Africa had not done that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The white people had more resources and power and i'm not sure how it became that way because Africa was originally a very rich country, so maybe yeah they were more white people than black, i'm not sure!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question!. My guess would be that they just weren't smart enough!. Sub Saharan Africans have an IQ that is on average 15 points lower then European people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
