After the Revolutionary War, the United States shifted from a traditional colony of Great Britain to a de facto colony, with over 90% of its imports coming from Britain!. This was highlighted after the Embargo Act of 1807!. The United States fought the war to end British impressments on U!.S!. ships!. The Republican Congress, led by Henry Clay, argued for war, with the votes mainly among party lines, and a decision to go to war was made!.

France and England were at war at this time in history though America was trading with both so French and British ships started seizing American ships so the American couldn't trade it to the other side

America started the war to protect American merchants and their over sea commerce with European nations

They wanted to trade with the french but the british were not letting them because they were currently in a war against france and did not want france to get needed supplies!. also i believe no one really won because no loss or gain of territory !.Www@QuestionHome@Com
