Question: What did Republicanism mean to the people in the 1830's!?
I know they first believed it to be democratic but then it began to branch down during the reign of Andrew Jackson or so I believe!. And then the people began doubting republicanism for some reason!. I need to know why!. It doesn't make any sense to me at all!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Republicanism was an attempt to deemphasize the democracy in the Democratic Party and emphasize that we had a representative, that is a republican form of government!.

But it also had an anti-slavery agenda which came to be its most important characteristic by the 1860s!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
