I read somewhere that the name Emma is Latin!. So back around the 17-1800's is it possible for someone to be named Emma in Wales!?

The answer is yes, people in Wales could have been called Emma at that time!.

The name is actually Germanic and means 'whole' or 'universal' and was apparently brought over to England in the 10th century by Emma of Normandy who was the mother of Edward the Confessor!. After the Norman conquest it became a common name, and given that there would have been some movement between English and Welsh populations then there is no reason why the name would not have travelled also!. The name had a revival in the 18th century (1700-1800) and so there is even more reason why it would be possible for someone to be called Emma in Wales at that time!.

However if you are researching your family tree the use of the name Emma might point to the family not originally being Welsh or having non-Welsh people marrying into it at some time, as more often than not names are passed down the family line!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a pretty old name, with both German / French connections!. And from what i've just read, it's quite possible that the name could have been used in Wales in the 17 - 1800's!. Take a look for yourself:
