Question: Why do so many think we were founded as a Christian nation!?
Take into consideration that the name Jesus is not mentioned at all in any of our founding documents!. also, when a creator is mentioned, it never specifies the creator that stars in Hebrew scripture!. I'm not trying to be inflammatory here, I would honestly like to see an explanation of this!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nice "additonal details"

Have you seen the new Addendum!?

Anyway, to answer your question this discrepancy generally stems from "under God" in our pledge of allegiance (even though it is NOT stated in the original)!. In God we trust is also printed on our money!.
also, in general, if you were of European decent you were (in one way or another) Christian or supported a monotheistic theology!.
If you did not, you were considered barbaric!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because the original colonies were founded in part so that the colonists could practice some forms of religious freedom!. It's ironic, though - they got sent here to get rid of them in Europe, because they had different views than the governments there!. But when they set up here, many of them clamped down on religious views just as strongly as the governments back in Europe!. The only difference was that they enforced their own views, instead of the ones that they had left!.

I think some people confuse this reason to start colonies with the establishment of the federal government!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

They did not use the name Jesus, but they did include God in many (maybe all, I don't know) of their writings!. They came to the US to be able to worship God as they wanted, not as the King told them to!. The Church of England was the only church that the King endorsed at the time!. I believe he was also the head of the church!. But I'm not sure on that!. There were very few Jews in England (if any) so there wouldn't be a mention of Hebrew scripture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simply because the vast majority of early colonists WERE religious and were Christian!. There were very few Jews, virtually NO Muslims, some agnostics, and a few atheists, but the vast majority were Congregational, Anglican, Catholic, or members of other Christian faiths!. The fact that some of the Founding Fathers had Diest views is really immaterial; they represented a minority of those that came to America!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was before the internet was invented: People simply assumed that the Creator was the one true God who starred in the Hebrew scriptures: Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't believe we were "founded" as a Christian nation, but a lot of folks believe we are a Christian nation today!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
