Most people didn't want war, but Hitler's initial success swept their doubts away!. It was only after 1942 that the tide of war turned against Germany and Hitler's popularity dwindled!. From then on, the war had a profound impact on the life of the people in Germany!.

Allied bombing raids were destroying factories and communication links, the Final Solution and the running of concentration camps were draining resources away from the war effort!. Fuel and food shortages hit civilians very hard and heavier air raids disrupted factory production!. Germany's economy could not keep up with all the losses!.

Hamburg was almost completely destroyed by bombing raids, 300 000 houses were destroyed and over 70 000 people killed!.

Villagers had to cater for evacuees and refugees from the towns!. Village populations shot up but the available housing did not!. Many people stopped supporting the Third Reich once they realised that Germany was losing the war!.

Labour shortages in key industrieds meant that the Nazi policy for women had to change!. Incentives failed to get women to work in factories and the birth rate did not increase althought the government was persuading women to produce more soldiers!.

Despite what some people think, I don't think it actually changed a lot to start with!. As I understand it, Hitler was very sensitive to things like how people perceived the war was affecting them!. I read somewhere that it wasn't until about 1943 that war related industries actually went to 24 hour production, prior to that they were on an 8 hour day!.
Although the British did night bombing, it wasn't until early 1943 that they really got their act together!. Prior to about mid 1942 they sent out bomber crews with a map an compass and they dropped their bombs somewhere between take off and landing!. The Germans used to listen to the BBC to find out which city had been bombed!.

The first world war ended in humiliation for the german people!. They had
major inflation and a poor self image!. Then along came Hitler and
started the Nazi party!. He preached to the people that they were the
super race!. He stirred them into a frenzy!. Sent most of the young men into
a military schools!. Started using jews as scapegoats and continued
his propaganda daily!. He was building for war!. Their factories were
working full time building planes, tanks,arms, munitions and he had
many scientists developing new weapons!. Jets, u-2 rockets etc!.
People were living in much fear!. As the war progressed we began to drop
tons and tons of explosives on their cities!. We demolished much of the country!.

Through war preparation and national works projects created by the war, masses of jobs were created!. Less people became unemployed, Germany got itself out of Depression, and the standard of living began to rise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
