Bin Laden ( a distant black sheep in the Saudi royal family) wanted to go into Kuwait and drive out the Iraqis before the First Gulf War, as he had helped drive the Russians out of Afghanistan years earlier!. The Saudis opted for the Americans!. Bin Laden was furious that the Saudis would allow American troop bases to be established in the Holy Land!. He issued warnings!. The warnings were ignored!.

There are also various degrees of religious and idealogical issues at play!.

PS During the period that he spent between fighting the Afghans and becoming the world's most wanted man, bin Laden spent a lot of his own time and money improving infrastructure in Yemen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He attacked in retaliation for US involvement in the Middle East!.
The US responded by invading Iraq, which had nothing to to with it!.
