Question: What was the role of violence during the era of reconstruction!?

The Reconstruction Era was a time of strength for African Americans and the national government!. During these years [it lasted from 1865-1877] African Americans received more rights and opportunities!. But obviously, the Southern white population was NOT happy about this!. I'm sure you're heard of the KKK but additionally, the "White League" helped wreak chaos on the African American population!. Since they couldn't stop the African Americans from using their rights, they tried to intimidate the African Americans using violence!. There were lynchings, mobs, and all sorts of gang violence tactics that were used to scare the African Americans from participating in government and society!. One could say that these tactics were somewhat effective since they did build fear among the African Americans (which obviously is quite sad) but overall, the African Americans had to combat rascism, prejudice, segregation AND violence!.
