Prior to 1789, the French Revolution, the French flag was pure white to Represent the Borbons (The kings)!. After the Revolution, France adopted the tricolor flag!.

The flag changed back to white and then back to the tricolored flag again during subsequent revolutions of the nineteenth century finally settling on the tricolored flag for good in the year 1848!.

The Bourbons restored to the trone did not the tricolored flag because it reminded them of the Revolutions!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
