Following the Revolutions, the country was starting to fall apart under the Articles of Confederation!. Finally Shays's Rebellion prodded our most prominent citizens to change our form of government!. They called a convention to propose amendments to the Articles, then immediately hijacked it to write the Constitution!. It was the Constitution that finally really united us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It took a long time!. Initially they were united under the Articles of Confederation!. Subsequently, they decided on a stronger Union , andgive to the federal government two poers!. All other powers were retained to the States!.(which were at that time still considered autonomous units)!. Those two powers were the right to raise an army and wage war (national defence) and the second was the right of the federal government to control commerce between the 13 States!. This was done to prevent tarriffs and taxes between the 13 colonies themselves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Articles of Confederation created an alliance or "Confederation" between the 13 colonies!. After the revolution the colonies bound themselves into a "Federation" by writing and accepting the Constitution of the United States!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
