King George rejected the petition by the end of 1775 and he hired
Hessian mercenaries to deal with the rebellion!. The colonies
responded by the following actions!. The moderates now supported
the "radical" call for independence!.

1!. They wrote the Declaration of Independence and declared
themselves independent of England!.----July 1776!.

2!. They sent Ben Franklin over to France to arrange a Treaty of
Alliance with the USA!.---- 1776!.
