The Black Death began in 1347 AD at the city of Caffa that borders the black sea, in Northern Turkey!. The infected rats found their way into merchant vessels which travelled to Messina in Sicily!. From here the plague spread rapidly through Italy and into mainland Europe!. Pope Clement VI had a constant fire surrounding him during this time, and the fleas couldn't penetrate the intense heat!.

It is believed that this horrid disease killed one-third of the European population, this being 20 million people!. The Middle-East wasn't affected greatly, due to their hygienic way of life through technological development!. Due to the climate of cold regions such as North Asia and Russia, the Pandemic was relatively unheard of!. Worldwide the estimate of deaths lays at 75 million!.
