In addition to the sanatorium system which was started in the states in 1882, the idea of fresh clean air or even arid climates to fight consumption was popular, away from cities!. I have heard, though I've not been able to corroborate this, that smoking tobacco was actually used at one point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
