Question: Is the U!.S!. more like the Ancient Greeks or the Romans and why!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It's more like the Ancient Romans because it has a central federal authority with one man at the top!. Like the Romans, the eagle is the national symbol and mottos tend to be in latin rather than greek!. Of course the original system was for a more Greek style city state system where each State would more or less be its own authority while the federal government existed to oversee national interests such as defence and regulating trade!. It was the abandoning of those ideals of State's rights that led to the civil war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The ancient Romans!. Because, like Rome, we began as a true representative republic with the power wielded by the people through their representatives!. Julius Caesar consolidated power to a central government more through military power much the same way Abraham Lincoln did in the American Civil War!. Today, instead of all the power residing with the people in the individual states as originally intended, it's all in the central government, Don't believe it!? Try not paying your taxes next April!. the Greeks and the English created empires, which took, but also gave, they created stability, which endured for hundreds of years, without opposition!. sadly americas foreign policy only gives big macs and microsoft another outlet!.!.!.

its not a world which everyone wants!.!. rome rammed it down peoples throats!.!.!. and they became so despised and hated they found themselves under attack for ALL sides, at once!.!. the empire of rome dissapeared in a german forest!.!.!.

Throwing aside everyone's political commentary, the US political system was closer to the Roman Republic rather than Greek democracies!. The Roman system was broken up into a Senate and the Plebs, similar to the bicameral system of the Senate and House of Reps!.

I reject all false parallels and rationalization of the past-present!.

But yes, the US a non-democratic empire, so it's hard to side with the Greeks on this one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
