you were probably poor and lower middle class or a peasent wherever you were so 1) in America you could work and eventually get land and your own home!. 2) move up in society - no classes!. (in the old world positions were static, you may be able to go from peasant to merchant but not usually) 3) more freedom depending on where they came from!. 4) if from Ireland because you hate England!. 4) if in France because of the crappy situation!. no food, or money and a civil war shortly after Americas!.

We were just becoming independent from the British, So our country was young and ready for all types of people and willing to change!.
