Question: If there were Soviet spies in America, why did McCarthy get treated like a criminal, when he was right!?
I just finished reading a book of the real accounts of McCarthy and as far as I'm concerned, the Liberals side-stepped and continue to defend themselves for their deliberate assistance to soviet espionage!. Why can't they just admit that they were wrong, and why do they keep attacking conservatives over minor things when they have so much to answer to!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

All of the people answering this question are correct!. But, don't be mislead!. This country is headed toward Socialism (and fast)!.!.!.which leads to Communism!.!.!.who is leading us to this inevitable and unfortunate fate!? The Liberal Movement, Democratic Party, and Obama are "LEADING" the charge!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The trouble with McCarthy was that he accused anyone he didn't like or who disagreed with him of being a communist!. He never even bothered to offer much proof to back up his accusations and didn't care who's life or career he ruined either!. One thing to consider is that being a spy for the communists was illegal but just being a communist is not nor is being associated with someone who agrees with communism!. I personally don't agree with that type of thinking but i also don't think a person should be prosecuted for it which is what McCarthy did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry, pal!. There are countries in Europe that have had "socialized medicine" for over 130 years!. And they haven't "gone communist" in all that time!. Does that process take, what, 2000-3000 years!? McCarthy--like that answerer--wanted his "public"--his VICTIMS, in
the final analysis--to consider everything we do to help our brethren as some kind of "pink" or "creeping communist" thing!. It wasn't in the 50's, and it isn't NOW!. And using that broad brush makes about as much sense as the equally preposterous "domino effect" Johnson and Nixon tried to hard to use to enhance their power!. A fiction is a fiction, and McCarthy and his whole manipulation of power--view through the blurry window of a degenerate drunk--and all the parables he tried to spin are as corrupt and demented now as they were in 1953!. Tarring others makes the attacker dirtier, in the long run, than the short-term victim!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

He went to far , He saw Commies all over , He went against the Constitution , If you disagreed with him you were a Commie , He ruined alot of innocent people !. You are innocent till proved guilty but with him and the Committee on Un American Activities you were Guilty till proved Innocent !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

McCarthy was wrong in the way he targeted anybody who did not agree with his views!.
He was no lover of free speech or freedom of association or indeed of any freedom at all!.
His concept was that government should even control your thoughts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK, I may be the only person on here who met Joe McCarthy!. I can tell you this: he was a drunk!. I could smell the booze on him, and hear the bottles (2 half pints, I figured out later) tinkle when he walked!. He likely did more to
ADVANCE the causes of our foreign enemies than Joe
Stalin did, with his absurd behavior!. However, if there WERE "commie spies" in the U!.S!. (and there were some), it wasn't McCarthy who exposed them!. What he did was attack others for being "sympathizers" or "pink" or other very strange things, which may have had more to do with J!. Edgar Hoover and Roy Cohn than it did with anything that really happened!. Apparently romantic interests of theirs were one of the driving forces behind his attempts at character assassination and guilt by association of persons entirely unrelated to the Communist movement, or those who were, in some cases, actually doing strategic studies of communist personalities for defense purposes!. His Army hearings were chasing ridiculous things, which did no one any good!.
Harry Truman knew what was in his brief case supposedly with the famous "list of communists"--it was Jack and Jim!. Jack Daniels and Jim Beam!. McCarthy is a man from here in Wisconsin, desperately
looking to win an election, when the "Commie" issue came up!. They called him "Tail Gunner Joe" because of a photo of him taken by a B-24 and used in that campaign, and a few people thought that meant he'd been in the service, which he never was!. But when questioned, he would circumlocute and try to avoid saying, "No, I never was!",
which was the correct answer!. He was a drunk, a fool, a witch hunter, and was properly censured by the REPUBLICAN caucus first!. His censure was then expanded!.
Legitimate conservatives had distanced themselves from McArthy, who was basically nothing more than a loudmouth, a criminal, and a souse, well before that!. One of the men who hated him quietly but ardently was the REPUBLICAN President, many of whose associates had been
wrongly under attack!. There are many fine, honorable conservatives who have served this country well, and I just watched one on the Presidential debate tonight!. But Joe McCarthy!? Sorry, he isn't one of them!. I will repeat the words of the counsel for the Army: "Have you NO decency, sir!? Have you none at all!?"Www@QuestionHome@Com
