The United States chose to stay neutral at the beginning of World War I!. There was the belief that America should not get involved because the American people did not feel close to the issues that were being fought over - this was Europe's war, and America wanted to distance itself from such a bloody battle!. However, America, with its self-righteousness and all (it's not a bad thing) decided that it wanted "in" on post-war negotions!. So there was a little bit of America that wanted to go to war, just so they could decide how the world would be after!. When the March Revolution ocurred in 1917 in Russia, (democracy during this one, socialism in October) America got into the war!. Wilson's 14 points summarize his plan of post-war negotiations!. They were somewhat successful, but not in the way that he wanted!. His beloved League of Nations was established, but America never joined (because Congress wanted to retain its power to declare war)!. His mistake was that he surrounded himself with democrats, and he didn't get enough support for his plan by doing so!. Overall, the 14 points show how Wilson would have wanted post-war negotiations to go, but Europe really wanted to punish Germany & Congress had a hard time accepting all of Wilson's ponts, so it was only somewhat successful!.

Hope that helps (;Www@QuestionHome@Com
