Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
C!. The Soviet Union lacked any ports in warm (i!.e!. unfrozen) water!. Having a warm water port allows a nation to freely trade with other nations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm pretty sure that it is D!. easier access to colonial possessions in the region because:
A is unlikely because Germany is not next to the Black Sea at all!. It would be easier just to go across Poland!.
It cannot be B because the USSR is not landlocked, it touches the Pacific Ocean!.
It is most likely not C because the Black Sea has cooler waters than the Mediterranean!. Plus, it doesn't seem to matter whether the water is cool or warm!.
D is best because some of the countries part of the Soviet Union are around the Black Sea, such as Romania and Bulgaria!. Plus, after the fall of the USSR, six former satellites around the Black Sea became independent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
