The Roman Empire was strong for a time!. It was founded on geography, family values, military strength, and wise leadership!. It flourished because of social, economic, political, military and religious strengths!. However, when the very things that make a civilization flourish start to decline, the civilization will also lead to a downfall!.
The first reason for the fall was economic decay!. The rulers of Rome had expensive lifestyles!. To aid their image, they needed money!. They gained money through taxation on the poor!. In response to the torment of tax collectors, the poor fled to barbaric lands!. The poor made up a large percentage of the Roman population!. Barbarians disrupted trade on the Mediterranean sea!. Rome's gold and silver were being drained into buying luxuries from China, India, and Arabia!. The government decreased the silver content in money!. The value of the money also decreased!. Diocletion attempted to curb the inflation!. He issued an edict that fixed maximum prices and wages throughout the Empire!. It was an unrealistic and unenforceable idea which failed!. The emperors still felt the tax issue needed to be addressed!. They decided to make the hereditary class of tax collectors pay the difference!. In other words, if a poor person could not pay their full share, the tax collector paid the rest!. This concept wiped out a whole class of moderately wealthy people!.

Later, slavery split communities!. Rome believed the workers of society should not benefit from slavery!. Slaves then had to reason to try hard or improve!. Eastern slaves started doing technical work!. Thus, all technical work was looked down upon!. Labor was cheap and worthless!. Upper-class Romans were content with what they had become!. They felt no need to improve their inventions, they were content with slaves!.

Another reason for the fall of Rome was political issues!. Citizens no longer displayed patriotism, they were indifferent!. Only the rich ran for office!. Only the rich could run for office!. It had become too expensive to hold office!. The officers were forced to pay for public engagements themselves!. The wealthy men destroyed Greco-Roman civilization!. The loss of Greco-Roman civilization led to the decline of classical civilization!. The general pattern of the classical civilization was based upon slavery being at the root of society!. The army had proven itself to produce many leaders!. The army needed to be maintained!. Again, taxes were forced mainly on the poor or made more people impoverished!. Soon the Pax Augusta came!. It brought prosperity, but failed to release new productive forces!. It also didn't contribute to industrialization!. The whole political system was put on display when gladiator shows and public executions were held!. They reaffirmed the moral order!.

The third and final reason reason for the decline of Rome was religion!. Rome religion deteriorated because of conflicts between Christianity and Pagan gods!. Constantine recognized Christianity as a religion!. Because of him Christians wouldn't suffer persecutions for their beliefs!. Rather ironically, later Christians would persecute Pagans!. Nevertheless Pagans were afraid!. They thought Roman gods would leave because of the Christians!. For example, their environment could go into ruin!. The Pagans killed Christians!. After a time, both sides realized the other wasn't trying to overthrow them!. Constantine legalized Christianity!. Later Theodosius made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire!. The army didn't like Christ!. Romans didn't like Christians saying that they protected Rome through prayer!. Some soldiers gave up!. Some Christians believed soldiers performed sacrilegious acts!. It wasnt so much that it helped bring down Rome, under the emperor Constantine the roman empire adopted christianity as its official religion, and its administrative structure became very much tied up in the structure of the church!.

The emergance of Christianity forced a huge change in the empire!. The emperors used religion as a way to control people, establishing cults that set themselves up as gods as well as combining the roman state religion with that of their conquered provinces!. Jews and the first Christians caused so any problems for Rome, and were initially persecuted so badly, because they refused to believe there was more than one God, and refused to accept the deification of the emperor!.

Eventually Christianity prevails over paganism and the empire uses the new religion as a form of control just as it used the old ones - for example it reorgaises the provinces and has them controlled by bishops, and the split of the empire in 285 sets up two religious capitols as much as it makes two imperial administrative centres!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure who is telling you that Christianity toppled Rome, but they are misinformed!. Christianity essentially took over the Roman empire when the emperor Constantine embraced that religion in the early fourth century!. In those days, it was pretty much taken for granted that rulers could determine religious practice throughout their jurisdiction!. In fact they were seen as having an obligation to guide their people spiritually!. The emperor became Christian, so Christianity became the official religion of the empire!.

The empire was already facing opposition along its borders before his conversion, but it kept going for generations after!. All human institutions eventually come to an end, and the Roman Empire was no exception!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe Christianity was less tolerant than the pagan religions!?!?!?

Persecution of the Christians is seldom blamed on the pagan religions!. Christianity was often a threat to the existing political systems and leaders!. Leaders often looked for a scap goat!.

When you look at religions, which religions actually today try to control political systems!?!?!?

Which religions have caused more wars!?

Rome still exists!. Look at the mass and all its symbols !. !. !. From that perspective, the vatican is probably the richest entity in the world!.

Christianity does not get all the credit !. !. !.

actually christianity helped the roman empire!. ever hear of the roman Catholic church!. the romans melded their religion of sun god worship and christianity to warp it to their own purposes

also christians worshiped on the Sabbath which is saturday not sunday

december 25th was their gods birthday!. jesus was born in september!.

also the emperor constantine was instrumental in choosing which books were used in the new testament!.

the romans loved their newborn religion!. it brought the empire togetherWww@QuestionHome@Com

well let's just say that the Roman Empire was already in a bad condition!.!.!.too many enemies around, not good enough state control etc!. when christianity appeared the roman emperors didn't choose the right way to face it!.!.!.they tried to make christianity disappear as a result there were many conflicts among the roman citizens lending to many umm not good 4 the empire situations!.!.!.Then when G!.Constantine became an emperor he transferred the capital city to Constantinople (Istanbul) where there were much more christians soo that actually meant that the Roman Empire had ended!. hope i helped

Christianity did not bring down the Roman Empire!. Much of the collapse can be attributed to GREED within the Senate and those who wanted to take over the reigns!. Rome collapsed from within and we ought to examine this in detail because, I think the USA is also collapsing from within!. We are becoming more greedy and complacent and this will lead to our own demise someday!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To understand the trueth about events in the Roman Empire in it's last two or three centuries, we must focus our attention upon the Island of Britain!.

For many centuries now, the people of Britain have been educated to believe that Christianity came to them from Rome!. This is not true!. Christianity was established here in Britain long before anyone in the City of Rome had taken any interest in it!.

See the links below and learn about Constantine the Great - the Roman Governer of Britain and our first Christian Emperor!.

Why was Christianity so easily spread in the Roman Empire!? It was taken up on a huge scale by the Legions of Rome!. Why!? They worshiped the God Mithras who's life story was very similar to that of Jesus Christ - therefore it was very easy to convert!.

We must not imagine that Christianity simply stamped out other religions, it did not!. In fact here in Britain especially, where there was then and remains today, an awful lot of toleration of religion and religious beliefs, the people simply carried on worshiping whom they preferred!.

There is evidence to show that a person might go into the temple of Venus in the morning in the city of London and then in the afternoon go into a Christian Church!. There was no sudden shut-down of the temples - it simply happened over time, but very slowly!.

Of course, none of the above explains why or how, Christianity had the effect of bringing down the Roman Empire!. But it's the point of march from which we must all start!.

A lot of our history here in Breten has been badly passed down to us and poorly kept, not in our time, but in earlier time!. One of the major culprits is a person called the Venerable Bede!. This man never left his monestary in the North East of England, yet he told lies about a Saxon invasion of Breten which never took place!. This rubbish has been passed down through the generation and has lead to all manner of misunderstandings about our past, of King Arther and the Dark Ages and a lot more besides!.

The Roman Empire was still an ongoing concern into the time of the Crucades!. In fact, so long is the history of the Roman Army, that it is the one Army about which young men at West Point in the U!.S!.Army learn a great deal!.
