it showed mankind that the u!.s!. was uncaring and gave us the power to end all live on earth!. BAD DECISIONWww@QuestionHome@Com

The worst mistake would have been if we had NOT dropped the bombs!.

Plans had already been drawn up to invade the mainland of Japan, and it is estimated that over 100,000 American lives would have been lost if that had happened - many historians say that this figure is a gross underestimate!. The Japanese people (mostly women, the elderly and children) were given pamphlets on how to defend the island - at the beaches, with rakes and hoes if necessary!. Many more Japanese civilians would have been killed than at either Hiroshima or Nagasaki!.

The Japanese military leaders knew that victory was impossible!. They just didn't want "unconditional surrender", and were willing to keep on fighting - hoping that we would get tired of it and negotiate a settlement!.

In all likelihood, it probably prevented World War III with Russia also!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why do you classify them as mistakes!? They were done after great deal of thought and a careful search for alternative!. There were none!. By using the nuclear weapons, the war was shortened by many months and thousands of lives were saved - both Allied and Japanese!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes,I must agree with the first answer!.Then,Japan had bombed the Black pearl so there is another reason why US used two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki!.Besides of that,Japan was still in war so it was necessary to end the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
