Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Queen Elizabeth, I'm assuming!?

Let's see

In 1588, the defeat of the Spanish Armada - which at the time was considered to be the largest, most deadly/threatening army ever known - by her smaller English army would help bring about a rise of nationalism in England!. (also, the Spanish would plunge into a state of defeatism - having been humiliated by the smaller English army)

This caused Queen Elizabeth to become even MORE revered than she already had been!.

In addition, she refused to marry and thus maintained her symbol as "The Virgin Queen"!. This is meant to parallel the Virgin Mary from the Bible!. Therefore, Queen Elizabeth was looked upon as saintly and holy!. The English were very proud to have her as their leader!. Both Catholics and Protestants could practice their separate beliefs (practices/sacraments/whatever) in peace!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
