At the time of the crash in '29, most mobsters were working outside the law - completely!. And this included not being involved in banks and the stock market!.!.!. so this meant that when the stock market went belly-up and banks closed left and right, the Mob remained flush with cash!.

After the crash, and with the onset of the Great Depression, the criminal element was just about the only source of cash in America!. Add to this, the element of Prohibition, and you have a herd of folks that needed some flavor of release and couldn't get it (getting drunk!)!. Prohibition kept the mob in business until WWII, when Elliot Ness and crew with the FBI started making inroads in the reduction of the mob!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The crash had little impact on "The Mob" considering they generally didn't invest money in the Stock Market since it could easily be traced and determined how much money these men actually made yearly!.
