Didn't something change int he goverment because of them!?!? I don't really know anything GOOD that they accomplished and I need to write an argumentative essay oh how nothing good came from them!. Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The Klan began as a social club, intended to provide poor disaffected southern whites with contacts at a time when many of them felt left behind and even exploited by the policies of Reconstruction!. It is important to note that Klansmen initially hated the US government and 'damn Yankees' as much as - if not more than - blacks!. But Union forces tended to be armed, or well guarded!. The Klan, to a limited extent, might have reduced the degree of direct action against official government agencies, by giving its members another outlet for its impulses!. Unfortunately, that anger was then redirected to smaller and weaker targets!. On another front, for many decades Klansmen tried to support one another in business, by an informal process of networking and preferential buying!. They also tried to appeal to those of 'like mind' in solicitations!. Up until the 1960s, it was not unusual to see local advertisements and business cards bearing the term "TWAK' for 'Trade with a Klansman!.' Some businesses were more subtle, using 'K' in their names as a code to other Klansmen and/or those who wished to give them preferential treatment!. (Note: Krispy Kreme is not one such firm, although the K effect may have contributed to its early success!.) While this may have helped many small businesses survive and succeed in the face of competition from larger corporations, it did so by - among other things - using racist appeal to draw support from other businesses not so connected!. The KKK persecuted blacks, Jews, Catholics and anybody who didn't think as they did!. for decades!. Hangings,cross burnings, beatings and intimidation WAS their modus operandi!. It was a grass roots type thing where if one heard a racist comment, you were urged to frown at the person!. It actually started by a person within the Klan!. The side effect is that this person saw the hatred and it changed him in a positive way!. If I can locate this person's name I will pass it along, but I can't seem to find it right now!.
