Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Technically, he didn't!. The first Emperor was his adopted nephew, Octavian Caesar, who reigned as Augustus following his victory over
Marc Antony at the battle of Actium!. Julius did set the stage for the
end of the Republic by using the military forces under his command to
make himself the pre-eminent politician in Rome, cowing the Senate
into supporting his policies by the implied threat of force!. This didn't go
down well and Caesar was assassinated!. The subsequent wars destabilized Roman society and lead to the acceptance by the public
of any form of government that would create peace and stability!. Rome's
republican traditions were discarded in place of rule by strong men!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
