I'm personally pro-refugee, but if you mean from Australia's point of view!.!.!.
1!. The numbers of refugees coming to Australia would shoot up as the deterrent of compulsory detention is removed
2!. Wages would be driven down as the labour supply expands
3!. Racism among those already in Australia would surge up, as the rapid immigration of large numbers makes integration more difficult, and there would be a perception that "migrants are taking Aussie jobs"!.!.!.
Etc, etc!. I think we have a moral imperative to take in refugees that outweighs these issues, but how to prevent these consequences (in particular the third one) has to be addressed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To all those refugee haters, these are the facts!. Countires like Iraq, Afghanistan seem unable to rebuild themselves, OK!. Now, why is that!? It is because the refugees are smart, educated people!.
They have fled for safety!. Letting them into Australia would mean an intitial economy recession as it adapts to the higehr population then it will rise insanely quick as these educated people make an impact!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well Chris S,many of us don't want Middle-Eastern people or residents of overseas nations ruining Australian society!. Aboriginals and white decedents of the English are the only acceptable migrating people here!. If the people from Iran and Afghanistan didn't come here and complain, wanting to build Islamic churches and schools in a Christian country, then maybe it would be a bit more easier to let them assimilate!. They want to change our lifestyle to suit themselves and their culture and that's not what being an Australian citizen is about!.

We are not multicultural, that is the classification idiotic politicians label our country as, without consideration of what the population wants!. People aren't racist in modern-day society because they are brainwashed individuals such as yourself, who haven't been given the opportunity to make their own decision!. If a referendum was held the majority of us would vote against refugees!. They are the real facts Chris, but your lack of knowledge regarding Australian customs and ideologies amuses me greatly!.

We need to protect our borders and keep non refugees and dead beats most muslims are not true Refugees check the facts that is why so many are sent back

Australia already allows true refugees into Australia but the doo gooders keep sticking their nose in so they are held off shore until they have been cleared as real refugees

Un controlled entry would destroy Australia's economy and become the center of terrorist activity in the area

and I for one would rebel and Australia would have its second revolution but this time it would not be bloodless

i do not believe any non christian Indonesian is a refugee and they should be sent back when i was in Borneo during the confrontation i saw what the indonesian army were doing to real refugees and they did the same in East Temor but any one from Irian Jaya are more than welcome in my country

australia would become a head case,there is already hatred in this country for particular people (muslims)and lets face it the majority of refugees are muslims ,if we are to bring more then maybe we should look to south america at least they assimulate adding more would be disasterous, we are allready losing our rights ,also this country could not sustain to many more people ,have a refugee intake but only in a small way,and as for people saying that its good for the economy well that proven to be nonsenseWww@QuestionHome@Com
