Assyria:
The country takes it's name from the town Ashur which is the capitol!. The name often applies to the extensive empire conquered and ruled by the Assyrians!. Since Assyria proper was a highland region (north of Babylonia) it had a more invigorating climate than Babylonia!. The population was not purely Semitic, and the origin of the Assyrians is not really known!. The name of the city Nineveh suggests there was some Sumerian influx!. The Assyrian culture was deeply indebted to that of the Babylonians, the Hittites and the Hurrians!. The religion was adopted from the Babylonians except that Ashur the presiding god of the city of Ashur became the chief deity of Assyria!. It was animistic nature worship!.

Babylonia:
A region of west Asia at the east end of the Fertile Crescent!. Babylon is the capitol!. Sometimes called the land of the Chaldeans!. Originally two political divisions; Sumer and Akkad!. The Babylonians and the Assyrians used Cuneiform script!. Royalty, priests, merchants, and teacher all relied on writing!. Nebuchadnezzar reigned over Babylon from 605-562!. He enjoyed one of the longest and accomplished reigns in human history!. He took Jerusalem twice and destroyed it!. The city walls and buildings he built were admired by Greek historians!. The country went under Persian rule in 539BC until 332, then under Alexander the Great until 323!. After the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD Babylonia became the a center for Jewish schools devoted to the study and interpretation of the law!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
