Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The Wehrmacht had several distinct advantages, early in the war, which made them appear near invincible!. First, they had a Long tradition of professional officers and excellent training!. Second, they had started to rearm and retool for the coming war much earlier than anyone else!. Thirdly, the leadership was open to new ideas, wanting to avoid a replay of WWI, and thus the ideas of Rommel and Guderian were given a fertile bed in which to grow!. Finally, excellent German engineering and a powerful industrial base were also harnessed earlier than anyone else's were, and this the Germans entered the war years ahead of their opposition in tank design and production, in the design of modern artillery, and in aircraft, and also in having a amy trained in all of these new weapons, and comfortable with their capabilities!.

As a result of these advantages, the Germans were able to employ the new tactics and new equipment to great effect in the first several years of the war, running down enemies who's tactical innovation and technology research and development had stagnated!. In addition, France and Great Britain had not geared up for war nearly as fast, and therefore could neither replace their equipment losses so easily, nor could they field troops who were nearly so well trained!.

Now, you make some claims that need to be examined!. "Did they only lose because they were severely outnumbered and outgunned!?" No!. They lost, in no small part, because Hitler's leadership became increasingly disconnected from reality, and because the generals were prevented from making sound tactical moves to preserve their forces by direct orders from Hitler!. They lost because they decided to tangle with the entire Western World at the same time, thus insuring they would be massively outnumbered and outgunned!. The German soldier, particularly later in the war, as the differences in training and veteran levels had worn down, was no better, and no better equiped than the average British or American soldier!. or were the German Generals on average better, either!. They were, generally, good, but by the mid point or slightly later in the war, the Allies had generally good general officers, as well!.

You also say "!.!.!.They were still fighting impressively on all fronts in the closing days of the war!.!.!." Correction!. They were fighting desperately, grimly in the closing days of the war!. They had, by then, excellent equipment, but not enough of anything!. They had a few grim veterans for every hundred raw recruits and relied upon units composed of old men and children!. In point of fact, while some of the Wehrmacht was still fighting well by March, 1945, most German formations were njot, and those who were best equiped and led were mostly arrayed against the Soviets!. American forces pushing through Germany by and large enountered relatively little resistance except for SS fanatics!. The pictures of the hundreds of thousands of German forces marching slowly away from the front while masses of American and British men and material moved in the other direction is a good clue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As far as military might, tactics, and advantages!.!. Germany was infact superior to most other military powers out there!. Hitler actually feared the United States however as they posed a major threat with their naval might and military power should they join the fight!.!.!. which they eventually did and helped destroy the Nazi forces!.
However, compared to the other european mights of the time they were WAY above the bar of standards!.
This isn't because Germans were superior or anything but because of the way they carried out their tactics!. Forcing POWs into research and studies to develop new weapons of war to unethical ways of destroying the enemy (such as gassing entire civilian towns and such)

The Germans were successful because their leaders were tactful, quick, and ruthless in their ways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the German army was generally superior in terms of equipment, training and tactics, but that was mainly because the UK, France and US had slacked off and cut defense budgets in the decade leading up to the war, the german army also had some major flaws such as having hitler in overall command, he was a poor tactician and commander, case in point invading soviet union in the winter, and not using grand strategy, an example of that being in north africa where rommel was unable to use the luftwaffe to complement his ground troops while montgomery implemented air superiority and naval convoy raiding into his strategy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they stated with the best equipment but they did attack country's with really poorly equipped soldiers like checoslavakia and poland or they just went ready like france as soon as they came up against the british in 1940 the british had one advantage and that was in the RAF even then the RAF were outnumbered 4 to 1 and the british had the Royal Navy the only thing the germans did that worked really well was there blitz Krige tactic and that run out of steam at the battle of kursk in russia that's where the germans panzer Armoured core was destroyed but personally i think the germans started to lost the war when they lost the battle of britain !.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Desperation!. They were fighting on their home turf and fighting for their lives!. That combination always makes people fight stronger, longer and harder!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

At the time, it was the best equipped!. Nothing more!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
