The Lee-Enfield bolt-action, magazine-fed, repeating rifle was the main firearm used by the military forces of the British Empire/Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century!. It was the British Army's standard rifle from its official adoption in 1895 until 1957!.The Lee-Enfield used the !.303 British cartridge

Watch 'Dad's Army' on BBC2!. Hamster is right!. The one fault of the Lee Enfield was that it tended to kill people, rather than wound them!.

Much better to seriously wound someone as that meant that a number of other soldiers/doctors/medics would be required to look after them, thereby removing them from operational combat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I had one for years!. It is an accurate rifle (and the military does not call rifles "gun")!. The only thing I did not like about it was the cut of the back of the stock!. The rifle can kick like a mule if you don't bring it back into your shoulder!.

The action was incredibly strong, but their design makes the rifle unattractive for sporterizing!. You will find, however, that the German Mauser has a better reputation, as does the US Springfield (1903 or one of its variants)!. The springfield was a rip off of the Mauser patent and the Germans were suing Springfield when WWI broke out and the treaty that ended WWI had a clause in it that killed the German patent!.

Part of the quality of the bolt action rifles was that you could slug through water and sand and still have a functioning weapon!. The same was not quite true for the Garand M1 which depended upon a gas port in the barrel to push the bolt back!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just under four foot long a good reliable gun with little to fault it, could be a little clumsy to cart around but made up for it by being able to stand any abuse such as war and still keep shooting straight!. the earlier model the 30 was smaller and lighter but its hitting power was suspect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
