Question: What role did malcolm play in the civil rights movement!?

This sounds like an essay question that you should be researching!. Here's a start!.

Malcolm X came to the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's and steered it away from the non-violent approach of Martin Luther King!. Although you wouldn't say that Malcolm X was inherently violent, his speeches were certainly inflammatory and perhaps did just as much against the overall appeal of the movement as he did for it!. At this time, we see such organisations as the Black Panthers emerge and the overall tone of the movement is again, one of standing up for your rights in a physical, possibly aggressive, manner with the idea that conflict is almost inevitable - rather than through the law courts, eg Brown vs The Board of Education etc, and through non-violent boycotts, sit-ins etc, as encouraged by Martin Luther King!. The problem with Malcolm X's approach is that the message tends to get lost in the method - or at least that's what Anti-Civil Rights media would latch onto!. He did much more, but this should get you started!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
