Question: Was your cultural or ethnic history represented in textbooks!?
I know there is a lot of history to cover in class but I always felt cheated not to have something of significance relating to my culture or ancestor's contributions to this country!. If I was lucky there would be one or two paragraphs in my textbook!. It made me dismiss history as a "useless" class!. What do you think!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nobody's history is represented, because what is in the standard history books are determined by what will create the most "patriotic" student!. That's why you don't hear a lot about the Japanese internment camps during WWII or that the suffragettes were beaten and killed or that the Native Americans were moved to reservations with horrible land!. What really shocks me is how little women, even white women, are not taught in history!. Few people know all the abuse women went through to be able to vote!. History isn't a useless class, as long as one isn't afraid to ask questions!. Believe me, you'll become unpopular with some people!.!.!.lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

Howard Zinn's" Lies my teacher told me' is a very good book to read about this!. When I was a youngin :) It was a page or two about civil rights and a page or two about slavery!. Not much!. You have to read on your own or take a college class!. Its sad much gets glossed over!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
