The great compromise was over the issue of slavery and how they should be counted for taxation, representation, and at census time!. A slave owner was given three votes for every five slaves he owned, thereby skewing elections in favor of the rural, less populated, slave-owning South vs!. the more industrialized, more densely populated, non-slave owning North!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could say it was a quarrel between Federalists and Antifederalists, but it was more a small state vs big state issue about how many seats each state would get in Congress!.

What the above poster is referring to is the 3/5s compromise!. The Great Compromise the solution to the problem of "should seats be given on basis of population, or equally to each state!?"Www@QuestionHome@Com
