3!. For beauty as well as history, St!. Boniface (Winnepeg) Manitoba!. Home to the largest French speaking population outside of Quebec in Canada, St Boniface was formally amalgamated with Winnipeg in 1972!.
St!. Boniface was established in 1818 by Fr!. (Father) Joseph-Norbert Provencher!. Fr!. Provencher had been requested by Lord Selkirk of the Hudson Bay Company to establish a mission on the east bank of the red river, opposite his own colony which was later to become Winnipeg!. This took some time to thrive, but it eventually did, and had its own City Hall, University and Cathedral!. The University is now a college of the University of Manitoba!.
