Question: Did people flee japan before the atomic bomb was about to be dropped in Hiroshima!?

There had been a warning prior to the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima, President Truman's diary entries (1st link) refer to it!. I was pretty sure I had seen something about leaflets being dropped or something!.

There are references on the page attached (2nd link) to an earlier air raid warning which was cancelled when they found only one plane coming in!. I thought it was two since they had a weather observation plane coming in ahead of the Enola Gay!.

The idea of a massive evacuation on short notice, considering that the results indicate that the warning wasn't taken seriously( I'd be skeptical if someone told me they were going to drop a "super bomb" on me too) might have led to more casualties than they sustained in the actual bombing!. Of course broken limbs mend much faster than the cancer which ultimately killed so many who weren't killed in the first few days!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. They had no idea an atomic bomb was going to be dropped!. Air raid sirens did go off, because American bombers were hitting cities all over Japan pretty much at will, but those were dropping conventional bombs!. So a large number of people were in some form of shelter, but they had no clue that a single plane, a single bomb would destroy their city and kill a hundred thousand people in such a short time!. ( Though many thousands didn't die immediately but died either of radiation poisoning or the thermal burns and other injuries secondary to the blast)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No - firstly because they didn't know it was going to be dropped, and secondly because there was nowhere to go!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
