Question: Were war horses in medievil times trained to attack people!?
I know many knights, especially german knights, had HUGE war horses!.!.!.bred to be very big and strong!.

Did knights ever train horses to kick out at other attackers!? I'd imagine in a melee, it'd be a good strategy to rear the horse up and kick some peasant footsoldiers in the face!Www@QuestionHome@Com

"A horse used in close combat may have been taught, or at least permitted, to kick, strike, and even bite, thus becoming weapons in the extended arsenal of the warriors they carried!."

Doubt it!
The armor put onto there horses was to protect vital organs!.
Dogs were used, with armor themselves on, to run under the horse ripping out the belly of the horse making the rider fight hand to hand!. Which was a huge disadvantage!.
Anyone who owns a big bred horse (as I do) know these horses are very smart but also very gentle to there owners, others need to watch out! I am sure the same was for the days of long ago!?
If one does not geld the studs they will try hard to push around even there owners!. Mine would rear up, he is very big!! He will charge strangers even now and it scares them!. He is "throwing" his weight around and if he had armor on!.!.!.!.!.!.well!
I do not believe they taught there horses to be killers!. Back in the day those horses were treated as royalty!. Better living conditions then many people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The last thing you want when riding is for the horse to rear up, at either end, and kick!. The hard part is to get the horse to stay in the fight and not run away anyways! Horses are prey animals and don't like things be thrown, stabbed and swung around them, and sometimes freak when a line of men move together!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the horses were highly trained both in europe, asia and north america when they arived, horses will not charge anything the way they do in war it goes against instinct, so the possibility that people trained their horses to kick, bite, stomp etc!. is not far fetched!.

In the story "El Cantico de Mio Cid" it refers to the warhorse Babieca and his hooves that were cut to a point to disembowel foot soldiers!. He is also refered to as biting the face off of a soldier!.
So, I would have to say yes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no knights never did this!. there horses played a defensive role if the rider was dismounted in combat but otherwise they were more like modern tanks moving the knight into a better position!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
