Position:Home>History> How many of you have read Ernie Pyle's World War II columns?

Question: How many of you have read Ernie Pyle's World War II columns!?
I am well into "Ernie's War" a compilation of columns which started in London in 1940 and continued into his final campaign which ended in his death in April of 1945!.

It was the opinion of the compiler/editor of "Ernie's War" that every school child should read Ernie Pyle!.

I had read him before, and have been reminded of the highly personal writing style which undoubtedly contributed to his popularity!. War is an ugly and probably unavoidable fact of human existence, but Ernie Pyle reminds us that we can participate in war without losing our humanity!.

When I was in school, more than half a century ago, literature textbooks often included some of Ernie Pyle's writings!. As an amateur military historian, I think Ernie Pyle, like Stephen Crane and others before him and since, puts our eyes squarely on a World War II battlefield and shows us what it was like!.

Have you read anything of his!? I also plan to read "Brave Men," by Ernie Pyle, at some future time!.
