Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The feudal system hierarchy is as follows!.

The King
The Barons or Lords
The Knights
The Merchants
The Serfs/peasants

Note: The Pope had a divine connection with God and therefore his word was overuled over a King's so he may be included at the top of this list!.

You can see that the knights were considered middle class in the Medieval era!. The majority of them were supplied land from the Lords in exchange for a promise stating that they would serve in battle, if one arose!. Generally knights granted land to the peasants instead of merchants who were fairly well-off financially wise!. In exchange for a cut of produce, marks (the currency in the middle ages) and favours these serfs were allowed to beginning farming!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Knights were not upper class; they were the lowest nobility often serving for the honor of upper class landlord (duke, bishop) or king!. Many knights did not own any land, or serfs, but received money (rent) from the landlord for their service!. This service was often in the term of providing a military body for the ruler of the country!. Many knights were like vagabonds to seek living, but their advantage was that they could carry armory and weapons!. Many impoverished knights turned into bandits as well, and since by their title, they could build castle; their bandit camps often did that to the headache of many!. In early and high peak of medieval era, there was not such thing as a middle class!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
