Question: Did Abigail Adams and Thomas Jefferson have an affair when John Adams was in Europe!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I think it highly unlikely for a number of reasons!.

First of all, Abigail Adams lived in Massachusetts while Jefferson lived in Virginia and, later, in France!. Secondly, Abigail was the daughter of a Puritan minister, and had the same strict standards of morality that characterized the society in which she was raised!. Thirdly, I don't believe they even met until she joined her husband, John, in France!.

The Adams marriage was, by all accounts, one of those unique pairings of like-minded people who also shared a deep love for one another!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I seriously doubt it!. Abigail and John Adams were a true American love story, and were way ahead of their time in that she was fairly well educated for a woman of her day and John sought her advice and counsel regularly, even from far away On top of loving each other very much, as evidenced by their letters, they also had a great deal of respect for one another and very strong religious convictions!. Not the cheating types!.
Read the David McCullough book for some good insights to their relationship
also a book by Irving Stone entitled Those Who Love (it may be hard to find)Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Chrispy has it right, and the question is ridiculous!. It would be sort of like asking today, "Did Laura Bush and Newt Gingrich have an affair when George Bush was on his last trip to Europe"!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
