Question: What were women like in shakespeares time!? How did they compare to lady macbeth!?

Not many women in shakespeare's time would have been as scary as lady Macbeth, but Shakespeare had known Queen Elizabeth, who was a very powerful woman, and he may also have known some powerful ladies at the court of James I!.

Women of the upper classes mostly expected to marry, and to run a household, which was an extremely demanding job in Shakespeare's day!. They would be responsible for supervising tghe production of foodstuffs and clothing for the household, preserving food for winter, making butter and cheese in the dairy, ale or beer in the brew-house, distilling perfume in the still-room, and making home remedies for members of the household who became sick (women in those days were expected to be the family doctor)!. A woman who managed a large household would be expected to be a very good organizer, and to manage the estate when her husband was away at court or at war, as most noble men were quite frequently!.

shakespeare may well have known some noble women who were as strong-minded and as ruthless as lady Macbeth, since you had to be tough to run a household in those days!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well women back then were very reserved and oppressed!. they were very tucked-up and there was a lot of emphasis on what made a proper lady!. Lady Macbeth was much less "ladylike" than your average woman probably was, which has a lot to do with the whole "unsex me here" thing and Lady MB's masculinity and ruthlessness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
