There is no general rubric for labeling a leader "the Great"!. Usually a leader is historically referred to as "the Great" when his contributions to his civilization were so great in number or importance that it changed forever the way things were looked at or done!. In Alexander's case, he spread Hellenistic Greek culture throughout the Eastern lands, conquering the Persian Empire as he went!. He conquered most of the World (that was known to the Greeks at the time)!. His Empire, although broken into a number of pieces after his death, would continue to survive in some form until the time of Caesar!. Alexander is mentioned in a number of holy books including both the Bible and the Qur'an, and world leaders, such as Julius Caesar have compared their rules to Alexander's!. Alexander's rule, although short, changed not only the Greek world, but the Eastern world as well!. Alexander led the Macedonians to become the Greek hegemony!. He then conquered the known world, going as far as India!. Although his military achievements were great, he also spread knowledge and culture throughout the conquered lands!. He established a library in every major city which contained all the knowledge available!. He merged Greek, Indian, and Persian culture to form Hellenism!.
