Hippies really existed in the late 1960s to early 1970s (although some still survive in places like Santa Cruz :-))!. The hippies were an outgrowth of the anti-war movement against the war in Viet Nam in which the youth turned their anger about the war into a somewhat apathetic, more etheral attitude toward society focussing on the individual!. "Tune in, turn on, drop out" was the slogan of the era in which an individual high relieved the lows of the angst caused by the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hippies came from the beat nicks of the early 1960's!. They were popular from the late 1960's through the early 1970's!. So if I would have to give it years I would say 1967-1974!. Many people say that the hippie movement started in San Francisco in the Haight Ashbury section!. The beat generation became the hippies!. You can google Dr!. Timmothy Leary, Ken Kesey, Hunter S!. Thompson to name a few!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
