Hi,
Hands down, that person would be Revolutionary War
General Nathanael Greene, "The Fighting Quaker"!.
Considered by everyone, to be Washington's replacement
if he was to go down in battle!. Because of Greene's
leadership in command of the Southern Army, British
General Lord Cornwallis was not able to take control of
North Carolina, forcing him to try to capture Virginia instead!.
The end result was Cornwallis being cornered in Yorktown!.
After Cornwallis left N!.C, Greene was able to push the British
back out of South Carolina and Georgia!. So, Greene won back
the southern colonies, or as we say, "He won the war in the south"!.

Nathanael Greene is highly revered here in the south!. N!.C!., S!.C!.,
& GA!., each gave him a plantation!. There are many towns and
cities named after him, the first being Greensboro, N!.C!.
He is buried in Savannah, Ga!., but he is revered the most in
Greensboro, the site of his greatest battle with Cornwallis!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
