Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The Huns were a group of nomadic (roaming) herdsmen, warlike people from the steppes (grasslands) of North Central Asia north of China (Mongolia)!.

Hordes Attack Asia and Europe: The Chinese successfully defended themselves against the Huns in the 3rd century (the Huns were then led by Mao-tun, the first great leader and uniter of the Huns!.
Another leader Attila the Hun (born about 406 - died 453, was the most successful king of the Huns; Attila was often called the "Scourge of God!."

The Huns conquered much of Eastern and Southern Europe, and contributed to the downfall of the Roman Empire
In the fourth and fifth centuries an invasion of nomadic tribes exploded out of the steppes of Central Asia into Europe throwing the Roman Empire into disarray and eventually destroying it!. The Huns arrived in Europe around 370 and settled in modern-day Hungary!. Their appearance forced the resident Visigoths, Ostrogoths and other Germanic tribes to move westward and southward and into direct confrontation with the Roman Empire!.

In 451 the Huns plunged into the heart of Europe but were defeated by the Western Romans and their Visigoth allies at the battle of Chalons in France!. The following year Attila invaded Italy itself, pillaged many of the northern cities and threatened Ravenna!. Attila left Italy before accomplishing his task and died, sparing Rome from further attack

Among them the Mongolian and Turks !. Of course, there probably would have been both Mongols and Turks in the leadership of the Huns just as in the 13th century Genghis Khan's Golden Horde about half of the warriors were Turks!. This collection is a very mixed bag!. The Huns conquered and assimilated numerous peoples in their brief history so the names associated with the Huns could have been and were German (Gothic), Iranian (Alans) and Turkic/Mongolian!.

The Huns remained a distinct group in Europe through the early 8th century!. The people of modern Hungary and Bulgaria believe that they are descended from the Huns!.
