Yeah Henry made the break with Rome because his first wife Kathryn of Aragon hadn't produced a son (only one daughter, Mary), and so he wanted to divorce her in order to marry Anne Boleyn, so she would hopefully produce a son and heir!. (She also had one daughter - Elizabeth aka Elizabeth I who the Elizabethan era is named after)!. The Roman Catholic Church wouldn't let him, and so he decided to create his own church - the Church of England - of which he would be head, so that he could give himself permission to divorce Kathryn!. It also probably would have earned him some money!.!.!. But it caused problems too, cos it meant that the country became Protestant, and relations between the Catholics and the Protestants were rather turbulent at the best of times!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Like most kings he desperately wanted an heir!. Believing that he needed a divorce to get that, he spent several years trying to get the pope to allow it before breaking with Rome!. Even after the break he spent another couple of years trying to mend relations with the pope before he finally gave up!. At that point he went the whole way - grabbed all the money and goods, dissolved the monasteries, killed loads of people, did all the thing he became famous for!.

So I don't think any of the 4 options you give are right, unless you regard wanting an heir as a desire for power!. He must have had a faith - otherwise he would not have attended 3 masses a day - but it was entirely pragmatic!. He only grabbed the money when it was obvious that relations with Rome would never be mended!. And I do not think love had anything to do with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have to remember that his father Henry VII came to power at the end of a war over succession - the War of the Roses - and that his claim was not very strong - being a distant relative of the Lancastrians - who married a Yorkist!.

Henry VII was therefore vastly aware of the need to secure an heir so that his house might continue on!.

The odd thing is that having daughters did not spell and end to his house in that they were able to succeed him - it was them not having ANY children that ended his house!.

To a lesser degree power was an issue!. Henry considered himself simply Head of the Church, of England - that is, the head of the Catholic Church 'in' England!.!.!. with the right to appoint clerics to high office!. (Since King John, the Pope had been 'over' the King of England)!.

Henry was also keen on grabbing money from the dissolved monasteries!.

He broke from Rome as he could not get a divorce from Catharine
!.He made him self Head of the Church in England!.He remained a catholic!.
The Protestant faith was only up & running with its new thoughts!.
The money flowed into the coffers once the dissolution was under way!.
With money comes power he also had 2 daughters as bargaining power with Europe!.
He needed a son sadly Cathrine failed to provide a living male heir!.Her only surving child being Mary!.
Anne fluttered her eyelids, kept Henry at bay until she was sure that he would get rid of Catherine!.
Love I think he loved Catherine but needs must!.
Anne perhaps lust & love but again needs must!.She only produced 1 surviving child Elizabeth!.
Jane perhaps!.
Anne of Cleves no way!.
Catherine Howard yes but he was fooled!.
Catherine Parr doubt it he needed a sensible nurse!.
Hope that helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Faith: No, that was a fake because he wanted another wife!. He didn't have a male heir and was such an egomaniac that he would destroy even his church to get one!. They wouldn't let him get a divorce!.

Money: Not really, but it was a "bonus"!. He stole all of the Catholic land in england!.

Power: Well, to a point!. He felt that the Catholic Church wouldn't allow him do do what he wanted, so, like a spoiled child, he "took his country and went home"!.

Love; I don't believe that Henry VIII was capable of love!. Love requires some "give and take" and He couldn't give, everything was about him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They wouldnt let him divorce his first wife!.
So he broke with them and made his own church so he could!.
Faith: Not Sure
Money: The new chirch would earn him money
Power: It would also boost his power
Love: The divorce wife thing/ Www@QuestionHome@Com
