The Renaissance was essentially a return (a rebirth) of the classical ideals of art, architecture and so forth, with a new appreciation of the ruins of ancient Rome, and the discovery of texts by Vitruvius (a first century bc architect) - the Ten Books, as they are known!. In Vicenza in the 15th century much of the content of Virtruvius influenced a publication by Andrea Palladio of the four books on architecture - which sought to recreate architectural styles following the examples of the ancients!. As many of the building type of Quattrocento Italy were unknown to the Greeks or Romans, some of these are a bit fanciful: temple fronts were never used on anything other than, er, templles - although Palladio applied them to domeestic and commercila buildings!.

The use of the orders was key and the style translated well to new Christian building, (despite its original association with a pagan culture) with its emphasis on humanism - the relationship of art and architecture to the human scale!. More accurately, the art of the Renaissance was a reflection of Greco-Roman ideas, expressed in Italian (or other European) heritage!. The Middle Ages were marked by the rise of Christianity and Early Christian Art!. The majority of art at this time was cathedral architecture and religious illuminaries!. The Renaissance was a re-birth of old ideas!. That is literally what the term means, and this is the first period in art history that was coined by artists contemporary to its time!. The art of the Renaissance returned to portraying Greco-Roman mythology, as well as concentrating on humanism and individuality!. Those were both Greek ideas!. The easier way to see it is through the artwork!. First, compare Greco-Roman art to Renaissance art!. Then, look at Medieval art!. The difference in the middle is apparent, as is the reappearance of themes from Antiquity in the Renaissance!.

more like how did it not!? the entire renaissance was based on looking back to Greek and Roman ideals, adopting them, and re-using them!. in painting, in sculpture, in architecture, mathematics, and philosophy (both of these last were used extensively in the arts as well)!. that should get you started!. cuz i'm guessing it's you who needs to explain yourself well - in your homework!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
