Question: What year did the baroque period start and end!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Baroque as an expression of art and music is linked to certain artists and composers!. Mainly, they were Catholics who responded to the Council of Trent (1545-63) which said (among many other things) that the arts should be understandable by ordinary people, not just the rich and educated!.

The first consistently Baroque composer is usually thought to be Monteverdi (1567-1643) and the last to be Telemann (1681–1767)!. Some of the works of Haydn (1732-1809) have Baroque characteristics although he is properly regarded as the father of the Classical style!.

In visual arts, the Baroque started earlier, mainly in church paintings, and the first artists are held to be Caravaggio (1571-1610) and Ribalta (1565 - 1628)!. The last true Baroque artists were probably David Teniers the Younger (1610-1691) and Murillo (1617 - 1682)!.

It can be seen that the musical Baroque period started later and lasted longer than the visual!. The same timing is observed among sculptors, so that the great Bernini (1598-1680) covers the whole time period for 3-D art!.

Taking a historical view, we could say that the true Baroque period lasted from about 1580 to about 1740, but a few musical works after that date showed characteristics of the Baroque right up to 1780!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
